Prepare to unwrap Christmas with a delightfully festive evening of seasonal words and music. Simon Callow makes a welcome return to Chichester to share some favourite yuletide poems and prose including an extract from his celebrated one-man adaptation of Charles Dickens’s classic tale A Christmas Carol. West End singers Rebecca Trehearn, Emmanuel Kojo and Rebecca Caine, matched with five fine musicians, will join CFT Artistic Director Daniel Evans and a special surprise guest for a range of traditional carols and festive favourites: from In the Bleak Midwinter, O Holy Night and Shepherd’s Pipe Carol to White Christmas, Sleigh Ride and, of course, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. Simon Callow is an acclaimed actor, writer and director, whose films include Amadeus, Four Weddings and A Funeral, A Room With A View and Shakespeare in Love. He has written extensively about Charles Dickens as well as portraying him on screen. Rebecca Caine’s career has been divided between opera (including Glyndebourne and ENO) and musical theatre. She created the role of Cosette in Les Misérables; other West End appearances include The Phantom of the Opera and My Fair Lady. Emmanuel Kojo was nominated for a UK Theatre Award for his role as Jud Fry in CFT’s Oklahoma! (2019); his other musical credits include Girl from the North Country, The Scottsboro Boys and Show Boat. Rebecca Trehearn’s many West End appearances include Show Boat (Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical), City of Angels and Ghost; she’s also a frequent guest on BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night. This event will be streamed from the Festival Theatre stage to audiences at home. Stream tickets are available to purchase until 5.30pm GMT on the day of the performance, Friday 4 December.
